THE EVIL TOUCH

ANTHONY QUAYLE



John Anthony Quayle (known as Anthony Quayle) was the host of "The Evil Touch" that ran for one season between 1973 to 1974.

Quayle was born in Great Britain in 1913.


He started his career in a music hall comedy in 1931 and moved onto the Old Vic Company in 1932.


His reputation grew and in 1936 appeared on Broadway in "The Country wife".


During the second world war, he joined the Royal Artillery, and rose to the rank of major.


On returning from the war, in 1946 Quayle directed the stage production of "Crime and Punishment".


Between 1948 till 1956, he was the director of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.


Quayle, whose first movie was "I Stand Condemned", in 1936, was able to play many diverse roles.


Quayle acted in many movies, including "Lawrence of Arabia", "Ice Cold in Alex" and "The Guns of Navarone".


It ventured into television in 1936 with a credit in the telemovie "Trelawny of the Wells".


The first television series he appeared in was "For The Children" in 1946 Quayle would continue to appear in both movies and television series. Of note was "The Strange Report" in 1969.


"The Evil Touch" was created by Mende Brown, being produced and broadcast by the nine network in Australia between 1973 - 1974. This series was an anthology, similar to the Twilight Zone's in format and presentation. The stars of each episode were usually from the United States of America, with supporting roles filled by Australian actors. The stories differed from each other, with some being themed supernatural, horror, occult, and science fiction. Quayle would introduce story with a prolouge, similar to the Rod Serling style. Each story usually ended with a twist. Quayle would then provide an epilogue. The show ran for 26 Episodes.


After the show, Quayle continued with his movie and television career, with his last credit being the voice of King Nod in "The Princess and The Cobbler", which was released in 1993. Anthony Quayle passed away in 1989.
