THE SCHLOCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
|
On 30 March 2007, TVS Television Channel 44 in Sydney Australia commenced screened "The Schlocky Horror Picture Show", hosted by the skeleton Nigel Honeybone.
Nigel is the brain child of Graham Garfield Barnard and Tim Newsom (with Iain Triffitt writing and voicing Nigel up to episode 25, then Barnard writing and voicing Nigel from episode 26).
The Show was screened weekly from February 2007.
Nigel had a unique way of presenting movies, using cleaver satire, with images shown in the top right hand corner of the screen, which would add to his remarks.
Occasional he would conduct interviews, which included Shane Porteus and Ralph Baker, who had both played the horror host Deadly Earnest in the 1960-1970's.
Nigel would often present the movies wearing a stylish blue jacket, but I do not think he wears any trousers.
His wardrobe was not restricted to this single jacket. He has a great array of tops including a purple smoking jacket ensemble.
Nigel's official biography is that" When the Australia Government announced that television licenses for community television stations would not continue passed 2016, TVS channel 44 Sydney made the decision to close in late 2015; which almost ended Nigel's career.
TVS Channel 44 Adelaide (South Australia), would continue into 2016, and had picked up Nigel and his show.
But this was only a temporary reprieve, as the licenses would not continue passed 2017.
What would Nigel do next? He may retire to the seaside, or take up flying, or even join a rock 'n roll band.
In 2017, the producers were able to secure Nigel's future, appearing on Foxtel Aurora Channel 173. The Professor (Paul Kennedy) became an official sponsor for the show from about 2018-2019.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Nigel was reborn, with his show appearing on various television stations around Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Now how did Nigel Honeybone get his name? When the producers purchased him, they notice that on the receipt was the name of the sales person, which was Nigel Honeybone, which they adopted as the new name of the host. "Nigel Honeybone" was also one of the hosts for "100 Years of Monster Movies"

He's the best dressed skeleton in show business. Today I present Nigel Honeybone, host of The Schlocky Horror Picture Show on TVS Television Channel 44 in Sydney, Australia, which began airing in February 2007. Australia, you say? Your TV rabbit ears don't pick up TV Sydney? Don't fret because our good friends at Kreepy Kastle and The Vortexx also present the dearly departed Nigel for those of us who don't live down under. Make no bones about it, show business is in Nigel's blood, or at least it was when he still had some. He made his stage debut as Hamlet's dead father, not to be confused with poor Yorick's skull. Honeybone was catapulted into the world of modern horror when renowned director Alfred Hitchcock convinced Nigel to don women's clothes for his part in the movie Psycho. After a long day on the set, Nigel likes to enjoy his favorite gin cocktail... a Corpse Reviver, of course. |
In 2019, Graham Garfield Barnard - "Nigel Honeybone" was inducted into "The Official Horror Host Hall of Fame".
Barnard also appeared on hosted horror show "The Professor's Scary Movie Show" as a werewolf and a zombie.
