QUEENIE ASHTON - "OLD NANCY" NELLIE LAMPORT - "SATAN" ? - "NARRATOR" |
In 1939 the world of horror hosted shows had reached Australian shores with the broadcasting of the radio anthology series "The Witch's Tale" on radio station 2UW.
The show was originally aired in the USA. It was then syndicated for broadcast in Australia, with different cast and crew, based on remakes of the original scripts. The host was "Old Nancy" the witch of Salem and 'Satan' her wise black cat. Old Nancy was played originally by Winifred Green for the first 26 episodes, then by Queenie Ashton, with Nellie Lamport providing the vocal sound effects for Satan the cat.
In 1941, the show would be heard on 2GB, Saturdays at 8:30pm. The series ended in Australia in 1943. |
