EL SABADO DEL SANTO

ROBERTO GUZMAN HUERTA - "SANTO"

"El Sabado del Santo" was a Saturday afternoon hosted horror movie show, aired in Mexico in the early 1970's. Translated the title means "Saturday of El Santo" or "El Santo's Saturday"; with El Santo - The Saint.

The show would air movies starring El Santo.

The host was Roberto Guzman Huerta as El Santo.

He was born in Tulancingo, Hidalgo, Mexico on 23 September 1917 and died in Mexico City, Mexico on 5 February 1984.

Huerta was one of the most well known Mexican Luchador enmascarado (masked professional wrestler).

Due to his popularity, he was able to start a career in movies as El Santo. His first of almost 60 movies was the 1961 "Santo contra cerebro del mal". El Santo's movies would have him battling a host of foes, including vampires, zombies and Frankenstein's monster.

In the 1970's, he had his own television show "El Sabado del Santo", where he would present movies that he had appeared in.

Throughout his public life, he always wore his mask.

Although I have not been able to locate his television show, I have found clips from his movies.

Please enjoy the trailer from his first movie "Santo contra cerebro del mal".
