BOO! THEATRE

TERRY V. JOHNSON - "DR. BOO"
? - "MELVIN, THE DUMMY MUMMY"
PETE SEARS

"Boo! Theatre" was a hosted horror movie show with Terry Johnson as "Dr. Boo" on Saturday nights at 11:00pm on KFSA-TV Channel 5, Fork Smith, Arkansas in the 1970's (the exact dates are not known).

"Dr. Boo" was assisted by "Melvin the Dummy Mummy". Together they presented horror and science fiction movies.

Terry Johnson was the son of George and Lois (nee Edwards)Johnson. He earned a bachelor's degree and then a master's degree while working at a local Comumbia, Missouri television station. Johnson's first job in Fort Smith was at KFSA-TV; and was the creator of "Boo! Theatre".

Later, in the early 1970s, he became an advertising and public relations director for the Donrey Media Group. In the early 1990s, ill health and the sale of Donerey, caused Mr. Johnson to retire.

Terry Johnson passed away 22 January 2009.

An email received from Pete Sears (27 September 2022)
I was on the Dr. Boo show in the early seventies. I was a paper carrier for the Fort Smith Times for the Poteau,Ok area, and my manager told me Terry was going to host a monster movie program on channel 5.
I contacted him and this led to me and some of my high school classmates being on the show several times.
I made several props for the show ( a bat with a Pepsi logo and a replica of Melvin the dummy.)
This was one of my favorite memories from my high school years.

A further email from Pete (30 September 2022)
We played ourselfs and joined in some impromptu skits with Dr.Boo and Melvin.
I do recall there were other local kids Terry had on the show but I don't recall from where.
I do remember we were the first group to appear.
I'll do some digging but there is very little left from this time.
If I uncover anything else I'll let you know.

There are no known clips or photographs of the cast or show.
