CREEPY MAGAZINE |
Comics to give you the creeps. Tonight I present Uncle Creepy, fictional host of Creepy Magazine which was launched by Warren Publications in 1964. The stories in the magazine were hosted by Uncle Creepy. Unlike its sister magazine Eerie, which featured continuing storylines, Creepy featured mainly stand alone anthology stories. Archie Goodwin became editor of Creepy in 1965. Having been well established in the comics industry, Goodwin had a stable of known contributing artists such as Neal Adams, Steve Ditko, Frank Frazetta, Alex Toth, Wally Wood, and numerous others. When Goodwin resigned as editor in 1967, most of the art talent moved on as well due to Warren's lack of funds. Between 1971 & 1983, Warren mainly hired Spanish artists from the Barcelona studio Selecciones Illustrada. Publication of Creepy stopped in 1983 when Warren Publications went into bankruptcy. |
