"Gasp Theater" was a hosted horror Halloween movie special with Paul Mertaand Mike Parlette as "Monster Kid" (a werewolf) presenting a Halloween special for KTXL-TV Channel 40 Sacramento California on 31 October 1981. The pair presented the 1971 movie "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" starring Vincent Price. The show also had guests Stan Lemkuil and Mick Martin. In addition, the show also featured stop motion creatures interacting with the hosts; and later a special on special effects. The name of the show's introduction announcer is not known. Paul Merta was also one of the crew for the 1986 made for television movie "Escapes" which featured Vincent Price as the host. The two guests also had roles in "Escapes" The following are some clips from the show: Gasp Theater 1981 from The Professor on Vimeo. In 1982, a revamped "Gasp Theater" commenced, with host Tom LaBrie. The show ran until 1984.
