Shirley Temple was probably the most popular child star in the 1930's through till the 1940's, and remains one of the best known and loved actors of all time.

She was born on 23 April 1928 in Santa Monic, California, and passed away on 10 February 2014 in Woodside, California.

Having appeared or starred in almost sixty movies over a 17 year period, Temple ceased her movie career in 1949, with her final movie being "A Kiss for Corliss".


In 1958, Temple returned, but to the small screen. She was to host "Shirley Temple's Storybook" (season two was retitled "The Shirley Temple Show".

"Shirley Temple's Storybook" ran from 1958 until 1961, and was a children's anthology series with Shirley Temple providing narrations. The series features adaptations of fairy tales like Mother Goose and other family-oriented stories performed by well-known actors, although one episode, an adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel The House of the Seven Gables, was meant for older youngsters.


The first season of sixteen black & white and colored episodes aired on NBC between 12 January 1958 and 21 December 1958. Thirteen episodes of the first season re-ran on ABC beginning on 12 January 1959. The second season of twenty-five colour episodes aired on NBC between 18 September 1960 and 16 July 1961 in much the same format. Besides narrating, Temple appeared in a number of the stories.
