SHOCK THEATRE |
"Shock Theatre" was a hosted horror movie show with J.G. "Pat" Paterson as "Mad Daddy" presenting movies on Monday nights 11:15pm on WBTV, Channel 3 Charlotte, North Carolina from the Fall of 1958 until the Summer of 1959. Patterson's make-up consisted of simple grease paint scars, a fright wig and a blood-stained lab coat. "Mad Daddy" showed all of the "Shock" titles were run. House of Frankenstein was the first one shown, and the final one was Horror Island.
From E-gor's Chamber of TV Horror Hosts web page: "Patterson is better known for the two horror films which he directed ... Dr. Gore (1972, aka The Body Shop), which was one of the first films to get an X for violence, and The Electric Chair (1972). His wife, Nita Patterson, appears in both movies".
"J.G. Patterson Jr. was also a magician who had a theatrical act and a traveling spook show under the stage name Don Brandon. He sometimes acted under that name in films".
Patterson prided himself on his advertising and personally silk-screened his own promotional posters on machinery that he kept in his studio. It has been stated that after his death, his wife destroyed everything in his shop.
