TALES OF THE BLACK CAT

BOB DALTON - "THE BLACK CAT"

"Tales of the Black Cat" was a hosted horror / thriller television series by CBS with Bob Dalton that was aired on WTOP-TP, Channel 9 Washington, D.C., around 1953. The show would open with Dalton sitting with Thanatopsis, a large black cat, on his lap. Dalton would present episodes of the series.

Bob Dalton said about the role: "had to wear a black leotard and hold a 25-pound black cat on my lap to introduce the movie and do commercials," Dalton recalled. "The cat had claws that came out about two inches when the lights would go on and it became nervous. On the first show those claws dug into my thighs and drew blood. Then in the middle of the commercial it wet on me. I grimaced and looked terrible as I struggled to finish the intro. When the film began, the director yelled over, 'You looked great, Bob.' I received no talent fee for the show because it came during my shift. The cat got five bucks a show. But the station did agree to wash my leotard."

Dalton was married to Fumiko Dalton. Sadly, Dalton passed away on 10 December 1999 in Washington, DC.
