"Baron and His Buddies" was a hosted horror movie show with Mike Price as "Baron Daemon", screened on weekday afternoons, around 4:00pm to 5:00pm on WNYS-TV Channel 9, Syracuse, New York from 1962 until 1967. The show featured "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoons, "Mack and Myer for Hire," and "Flash Gordon" shorts, as well as a studio audience of children, plus the Baron's Bloody Buddies, "Verry Harry" (Dennis Calkins) and "Boris" (Bill Eadie) the world's shortest monster. "The Saturday Hollywood Special" was a hosted horror movie show with Mike Price as "Baron Daemon", Dennis Calkins as "Verry Hairy" and Bill Eadie as "Boris", screened between 1962-1967 at Saturday night at 11:15pm on WNYS-TV, Channel 9, Syracuse, New York, USA. From IMDB: Though his career started in radio, Mike Price is best known for his "Good News" segment on WSYR 9 news on weeknights. Many viewers of channel 9 also remember Price as "Baron Daemon," a vampire-like character who hosted a late night movie show. The Baron (Price) also became the host of a weekday afternoon children's show from 1962-1967. Mike Price is also known for his work on American Scary (2006), he retired from WSYR T.V. after 46 years. Today I present Syracuse horror host Baron Daemon. It began in 1963, a young man named Mike Price was transformed into the Baron when station WNYS needed a host for its late night horror shows. The show became so popular with children that an afternoon show was added called "Baron and His Buddies" five days a week. His fans were known as Bloody Buddies and every child wanted to be one. In 1963 The Baron recorded the "The Transylvania Twist" and sold over 12,000 copies, the biggest selling local single ever. Copies now sell for over $100 on eBay. The Baron was an overnight sensation and his legacy still casts a long shadow. Another legacy will be uncloaked tomorrow. In 2023, Dan Phillips as "Baron Daemon", was a nominee in the "The Official Horror Host Hall of Fame". Mike Price was also the voice on the horror movie show "Saturday Shock Theater".
