BORIS KARLOFF

"The Veil" was a hosted horror/suspense anthology series produced in 1958 by Hal Roach Studios and hosted by Boris Karloff. Each of the 12 episodes ran for thirty minutes. Boris Karloff, also acts in every episode all bar one. Episode plots allegedly were based upon real-life reports of supernatural happenings and the unexplained. Ten of the 12 episodes begin and end with Karloff standing in front of a roaring fireplace, inviting viewers to find out what lies "behind the veil". EPISODES: "The Vestris" (with Torin Thatcher and Rita Lynn; a backdoor pilot that aired as an episode of Telephone Time) "Vision of Crime" (with Robert Hardy, Patrick Macnee and Jennifer Raine) "Girl on the Road" (with Tod Andrews and Eve Brent) "Food on the Table" (with Kay Stewart and Tudor Owen) "The Doctors" (with Tony Travis and Argentina Brunetti) "The Crystal Ball" (with Booth Colman and Roxane Berard) "Genesis" (with Katherine Squire and Peter Miller) "Summer Heat" (with Harry Bartell and Paul Bryar) "The Return of Madame Vernoy" (with Lee Torrance, Jean del Val and George Hamilton) "Destination Nightmare" (with Ron Hagerthy and Myron Healey) "Jack the Ripper" (with Niall MacGinnis and Dorothy Alison; produced by a different studio) "Whatever Happened to Peggy?" (with Denise Alexander, Whit Bissell and Olive Blakeney) The Veil was never broadcast. Ten episodes were released to the public in their entirety for the first time in the 1990s, and have subsequently been released on DVD. Portraits of "Boris Karloff" by Bradley Beard. Boris Karloff was born William Henry Pratt on 23 November 1887 and died on 2 February 1969. He was an established actor, starring in many movies, television shows, radio and records. He his best remembered by horror fans as "Frankenstein's Monster", "The Mummy" and "Fu Manchu". The last role for Karloff was the 1971 sicence fiction / horror movie "The Incredible Invasion" playing the part of Professor John Mayer.
