USA UP ALL NIGHT |
"USA Up All Night" is USA Cable Network's weekend movie program that lasts into the wee hours of the night. The quality of movies range from top rate to cheesy. In the beginning, "Up All Night" had hosts that presented the movies and had skits during the films. Gilbert Gottfried hosted on Saturdays in New York City in the beginning in 1989, and halfway through that same year, Caroline Schlitt was tapped as Friday host in Los Angeles. In 1991, Rhonda Shear would replace Schlitt as Friday's host, and late moved to New York in 1995. In 1998, USA decided to do away with Shear and Gottfried and just show movies.
Gilbert Gottfried:
Both a live and voice actor, his most notable role was his improvised scene as business manager "Sidney Bernstein" in the sequel, "Beverly Hills Cop II" (1987), for which the New York Daily News said that "Gilbert Gottfried steals the picture with a single scene". Aside from his reputation in comedy clubs, Gottfried began to gain a reputation as the king of quirky roles in both movies and television. He appeared in such movies as "Problem Child" (1990), "Problem Child 2" (1991), "Look Who's Talking Too" (1990) and "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" (1990).
After his stellar performance as the wise cracking parrot, "Iago", in the Disney classic, Aladdin (1992), Gottfried became one of the most recognizable voice-over talents. His signature voice can be heard in several commercials, cartoons and movies, including the frustrated duck in the AFLAC Insurance commercials. Gottfried also is the voice of "Digit" in the long - running PBS Series, Cyberchase (2002).
Sadly, Gottfried passed away on 12 April 2022.
Caroline Schlitt:
Caroline was a "Cherub" at Northwestern University's National High School Institute, Theatre Arts division in the summer of 1980. She appeared in small roles during the 1990's in "Diagnosis Murder", "Matlock" and others.
Schlitt is best known for her Friday night, wise-cracking hostess role on USA Network's "USA Up All Night" from 1989 to 1990. She commented sarcastically about the B-movies being shown and performed humorous skits each week.
Rhonda Shear:
While appearing on countless television shows and in films, modeling professionally, hosting USA: Up All Night for over 450 episodes, and doing stand-up comedy, Rhonda learned all a girl can know about costuming, enhancing one's assets, and capturing the attention of audiences around the world. Rhonda now delights in sharing that knowledge and encourages women to find happiness and confidence in more than just their underwear drawers. Through Shear Enterprises, LLC Rhonda develops apparel and intimates for women of all shapes and sizes, focusing on comfort, color, and creative solutions.

"And now back to the kind of acting, directing, and overall quality of filmmaking that makes you want to stand up and walk over to the director and say, "First film, right? I thought so." Tonight I present Gilbert Gottfried, host of USA Up All Night which aired on the USA Network from January 7, 1989 to February 1998. Gilbert hosted the show on Saturday nights from New York and Rhonda Shear hosted on Friday nights. It originally aired at 11pm on Saturdays and would feature three movies, the third movie often being a repeat of the first. The episodes consisted of low budget movies and interspersed with comedy skits featuring the comic genius of Gottfried. He and Rhonda occasionally hosted specials together. When the USA Network came under new management in 1998, it marked the end for the series; with over 900 episodes of the show having been shot. |
It's your bedtime buddy. Tonight I present Rhonda Shear, hostess of USA Up All Night which aired on the USA Network from January 7, 1989 to February 1998. Gilbert Gottfried hosted Up All Night on Saturday nights. Halfway through the first season, USA Network decided to add a second version of Up All Night to the Friday line-up hosted by Caroline Schlitt. Schlitt left the show in December 1990 and was replaced by Rhonda Shear. It retained the same format as the Saturday night Gottfried version; it aired at 11pm on Fridays and would feature three movies, the third movie often being a repeat of the first. In 1993, Shear also hosted a Spanish version of the show for the Latin market. Her show featured skits, music, and celebrity interviews. With her obvious beauty and sultry sensuality, a person has to wonder... who wouldn't want to stay up all night with Rhonda?
