FRIDAY SUSPENSE THEATRE

RUSSELL STARKE

Russell Stewart Starke was born on 15 August 1939 in Solomontown, South Australia and passed away on 8 February 2022 in North Adelaide, South Australia.

In the 1970's, NWS-9 in Adelaide, South Australia screened "Friday Suspense Theatre" from around 1975 and "Friday Night Thriller" from 17 March 1978 until 8 September 1978.

Both shows were hosted by Russell Starke.

Russell Starke's description of "Gamera vs Baragon" (screened on 8 September 1978) as a load of Japanese boiled rice, led to him being sacked from the show. As he pre-recorded his introduction the day before, his segment was not screened.

Starke is a veteran South Australian actor who was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2006 for “service to the visual arts through promoting the work of emerging artists".

In 2015 he was critically acclaimed for his role in "Quartet" and in June 2016 he starred as "Big Daddy" in "A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

Russell Starke was a prominent media personality, art critic, actor, and gallery owner of Adelaide Arts scene for decades.

There is no known clips from his two Friday night shows.
