Lisa Lush is horror host "Lush Scream Queen" from Sydney, Australia. Lisa was not a television or movie host, but a live host presenting horror movies at the cinema. The best person to tell her story is Lisa herself. LISA LUSH It has been nearly 30 years since the birth of Lushscreamqueen, so it's probably time for a quick bio. Why... well why not? Back in the late '90s, Sydney's horror hosting market was a total wasteland-which, meant it was the perfect time to strike. I strolled into my favorite local haunt, the Encore Cinema in Surry Hills, and somehow convinced the owner, Chris, to hand over the keys for Saturday midnight slots. I was already narrating The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Fridays, and I fully expected my beautiful crowd of degenerates to follow me. They did. Soooooo on August 15, 1998, Lushscreamqueen was officially born with a screening of Hammer Horror's "Countess Dracula" starring Ingrid Pitt (followed swiftly by "The Vampire Lovers"). Squeezing myself into a lethal corset, a long black dress, and a towering wig, I hit the stage. The vibe? Think Elvira's aesthetic meets Mystery Science Theater 3000 screwing Rocky Horror. Just one queen, a microphone, a delightfully awful movie, and a script of hand-written jokes timed perfectly to roast the dialogue. It was a chaotic masterpiece. It ran for years and even earned me my very own Mardi Gras float. At its peak, the schedule was punishing. I was hosting Rocky Horror on Fridays, then running back-to-back in the Blues Brothers and Screamqueen shows on Saturdays-all while working a full-time shift job. (Honestly, looking back, I'm deeply impressed by my own stamina). Sadly, the pub next door bought the cinema for space, and the midnight shows met their maker. Hey wait, I am the maker?? But we went out in style with a Midnight-to-Dawn Godzilla Marathon. Do I remember any of it? Absolutely not. Screamqueen wandered for a bit before I wrote, directed, choreographed, and costumed a new venture: "Grease: The Audience Participation Show". We ran at Reading Cinemas in Chinatown for nearly a year with a full live cast. One night, John Travolta himself showed up in plain clothes, sat in the back row, and left us a stack of autographed photos. Not a bad review! My Partner fell sleep next to him never even knew he was in the house! Eventually, management changed, and Screamqueen went rogue, doing pop-up gigs at iconic venues like The Taxi Club and The Imperial Hotel. (Pro-tip for future hosts: Silly String used as fake vomit during The Exorcist WILL stain standard upholstery). Then, television came knocking. A friend asked for script help on The Schlocky Horror Picture Show, hosted by the iconic skeleton marionette, "Nigel Honeybone" and airing on Community Access TV via Bernard Star Productions, I happily traded my corsets for a typewriter. (Yes I am that old). "The Schlocky Horror Picture Show" ran for 9 seasons run (2008–2017), I wrote at least three seasons and 21 episodes. (There are definitely more, but legally, I can't prove a thing). Where am I now? Sadly, Nigel has gone to the great boneyard in the sky, but I still have some of the master tapes. Armed with a newly acquired "DVD editing thingy", I am slowly digitizing and cutting them for YouTube. Because let's face it, the world needs a laugh. Standby, my darlings... the Queen isn't done yet.
