"SAM SCARE"



Since 1999, "My Movie Monsters" has offered monster lovers vintage classic horror and science fiction collectibles, including model kits, figures, magazines and movies circa the 1910s through the 1970s, featuring licensed or manufactured products from top companies such as Universal Studios, Sideshow Collectibles, Bandai, Diamond Select, Mezco Toyz, NECA, Toho/Godzilla, Moebius, MPC, AMT, Monarch, Doll & Hobby GA, Dark Horse, Ghoulish Publishing, We Belong Dead, and many others. The current onwers and operaters are Don and Vicki Smeraldi.



"Scary Monsters", with mascot "Sam Scare", from 1991 is a quarterly classic horror and science fiction magazine "for Monster Kids, by Monster Kids". Usually running a massive 128 or more inside pages, it has the look and feel of the pulp monster magazines of the 1950s and 1960s. The magazine also covers horror hosts.

"Scary Monsters Magazine", issue 115 (Winter 2019) pages 28-34; see Paul Kennedy's (aka The Professor) article - "They Came From The Land Down Under" - being a brief overview of the fascinating world of Australian and New Zealand radio and television horror hosts.



From 1993, the spring issue of "Scary Monsters" is the "Monster Memories" Edition, which features letters, articles, and photos submitted throughout the year by Monster kids and lovers of classic horror and science fiction.



"Castle of Frankenstein" is published twice a year in spring and fall. Over its 96 or more inside pages, it features in-depth analysis of classic horror, science fiction, and fantasy films and includes columns Baron von Neck's "Mad Movie Reviews" TM of obscure B movies from the past and present, Forgotten Fantasy, Tales of Terror, comic Valentina von Frankenstein TM, traditional Slaymate of the Month TM, and much more.

The magazine ran 25 issues from 1962, plus one annual (the 1967 Fearbook); the final issue of this initial run was published in 1975. In 1999, publisher Dennis Druktenis revived both Castle of Frankenstein (releasing 10 more issues) and the original title Journal of Frankenstein (releasing five more issues). In 2021, publishers Don and Vicki Smeraldi once again revived "Castle of Frankenstein," issuing #36 in October 2021.



"Scary" was published twice a year in summer and fall.


Between 2016 and 2022, Larry Underwood as "Dr. Gangrene" presented a sneak peek at upcoming issues of the "Scary Monsters Magazine", "Scary", and "Monster Memories", in his own unique manner.

In 2019, "Scary Monsters Magazine" was inducted into the Official Horror Host Hall of Fame" in the category of "Behind The screams".


In 2009, 2012, & 2023 "Scary Monsters Magazine", and in 2023 "Castle of Frankenstein" won a "The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award" in the category of "Best Magazine".

In 2016, 2024, the Smeraldis were inducted into the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards' Monster "Kid Hall of Fame".
