SCI-FI FRIDAY NIGHT |
| "Sci-Fi Friday Night" consisted mostly of British science fiction and fantasy shows. The host, Mike Frisbie, floats around against a backdrop of a computer screen saver as he presents the episodes of each show with brief plot summaries. After September 11, 2001, "Sci-Fi Friday Night" was moved to Saturday nights (and renamed "Sci-Fi Saturday Night") to make room in Iowa Public Television's Friday night schedule for BBC news.
In planning for the upcoming year (2004) , Iowa Public Television faced fewer resources than in years past. These budget constraints have led the network to discontinue the hosted segments on Sci-Fi Saturday Night. The science fiction programming for every week will remain, but without Mike Frisbie as Saturday night host.
Michael Charles Frisbie was born on 4 January 1948 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA and passed away on 9 July 2008 in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, USA. The son of Charles H. & Ila Jean (Walker) Frisbie. Mike graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1966. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, where he was very active in theater. Mike wrote and helped publish an underground newspaper called the Daily Planet. He taught the history of Rock & Roll at Drake and also worked for public television and hosted the television series "Sci-Fi Saturday Night". Mike was a disc jockey on Des Moines radio station, KFM6 FM. After retiring from television he worked for a bookstore in Des Moines. Mike moved back to Clear Lake in 2007. He enjoyed his books, music and old movies, and was the founder of the Nosferatu society, and was president of Nosferatu Productions.
