From Wikipedia: Danielle Gelehrter created the persona of "Penny Dreadful" the witch in an effort to revive the concept of a horror movie host on Boston-area television. The show, "Penny Dreadful's Shilling Shockers", began production in August 2005 and premiered on local cable in January 2006. Shilling Shockers first aired on Public-access television cable TV in Providence, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; New Bedford, Massachusetts; and Salem, Massachusetts. It eventually spread to over 200 cities and towns throughout the six New England states. DR. MANIFRED VON BULOW, PENNY DREADFUL, GAROU & LUNA Penny is assisted by "Garou" is the werewolf henchman and husband of Penny Dreadful. He communicates only through guttural growls and funny facial expressions. Garou was portrayed by Magoo Gelehrter, who died in May 2014 following a battle with cancer. "Dr. Manfred Von Bulow" is a semi-retired vampire hunter with a thick German accent. He is Penny Dreadful's foil. He is portrayed by Ivan Bernier. "Luna" is a madwoman, released from the abandoned Danvers State Hospital. She is insane but highly intelligent. Luna is portrayed by the series' television director Rebecca Paiva. OTHER PRODUCTIONS "The Dreadful Hallogreen Special" (2010) "The Dreadful Hallowgreen Special" was a 2010 television Halloween special, with hosts Danielle Gelehrter as "Penny Dreadful" and Larry Underwood as "Dr. Gangrene". Other horror hosts appearing in the show were: Magoo Gelehrter as "Garou", and Richard Dyszel as "Count Gore DeVol". In the special, Penny Dreadful & Garou and Dr. Gangrene join forces to save Halloween from a terrible fate. "Trailer Terrors" (2011) "Trailer Terrors" was a 2011 special bonus feature on "The Dreadful Hallowgreen Special" DVD release from Alpha Video- hosted by Danielle Gelehrter as "Penny Dreadful" and Larry Underwood as "Dr. Gangrene", who present classic scary movie trailers tag-team style. "Terror At Collinwood" (2021->) "Terror at Collinwood" is a podcast dedicated to the classic gothic television serial, Dark Shadows. I welcome all of you Dreary Ones who dare stay up past the witching hour to watch this enchanting horror hostess. Today I present Penny Dreadful, hostess of Shilling Shockers which first premiered in January of 2006 on public-access cable television. The show's success gained it a following in over 200 cities and towns in the New England region. Ms. Dreadful has also been the deserving recipient of two Rondo Hatton awards. Some people think that Penny is a persona created by a woman named Danielle Gelehrter but Penny may curse you if believe this to be true. She has on occasion admitted to being several hundred years old even though she doesn't look a day over 30. Sadly, Penny is no longer hosting horrors but you can visit her website to find her DVD's. He liked strawberry ice cream and meat. Today I commemorate Garou, co-host/partner with Penny Dreadful on Penny Dreadful's Shilling Shockers. Although Garou wasn't the host of the show, he and Penny worked their magic seamlessly together as one. Magoo Gelehrter by day and Garou by night; once the transformation was complete, Garou never broke character. He was a wolf of many talents who was always getting involved in some madcap shenanigan. Garou didn't just make you laugh; he actually made you feel better. His brand of uproarious humor left the world a lot brighter. Garou was awarded the Rondo Hattan Pure in Heart Award in 2014 for his unparalleled contribution to this genre. He liked to make people laugh and that was our gift. Garou will be remembered in our hearts… today, tomorrow, and always! AWARDS: "The Official Horror Host Hall of Fame" In 2014, Danielle Gelehrten - "Penny Dreadful" for "Shilling Shockers", was inducted into "The Official Horror Host Hall of Fame". In 2019, Rebecca Paiva for producer of "Penny Dreadful", was inducted into "The Official Horror Host Hall of Fame", Behind the scream induction. Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards: Penny Dreadful awarded "Favorite Horror Host" of 2007 and 2010. On 17 March 2014, Magoo Gelehrter received a special "Pure in Heart" award. On 10 June 2023, Penny Dreadful was inducted into the the "Monster Kid Hall of Fame". Midsouth Emmy Award "The Dreadful HallowGreen Special", a made for television movie (which Gelehrter co-produced and co-hosted with Larry Underwood (Dr. Gangrene), was nominated for a regional Midsouth Emmy Award in 2011.
