"The 4:30 Movie" was a movie show that aired weekday afternoons on WABC-TV (Channel 7) in New York, New York, USA from 8 January 1968 to 1981. Announcer and off screen host was Scott Vincent (8 January 1968 to December 1978); At Vincent's request, Gilbert Hodges assumed his duties during the former's illness in 1979, and following Vincent's death (31 May 1979), announcing on promos was divided amongst Gilbert Hodges, Fred Foy, Joel Crager and Ernie Anderson.The program was mainly known for individual theme weeks (including many Fantasy, Horror & Science Fiction genre themed weeks) devoted to theatrical feature films or made-for-TV movies starring a certain actor or actress, or to a particular genre, or to films that spawned sequels. The more popular episodes were "Monster Week", "Planet of the Apes Week" and "Vincent Price Week." Some films, such as Ben-Hur and How the West Was Won, were of such length that an entire week was devoted to running the whole movie. Other films that ran longer than the program's 90-minute length were often divided into two parts and shown over two days.

VINCENT SCOTT

Scott Vincent was born on 20 December 1922 in Port Chester, New York, USA. He was married to Anne Cassell. He died on 31 May 1979 in Bronxville, New York, USA.

Scott Vincent pursued work in television. In 1957, he was one of the four off-screen announcers for WABC-TV's "The Night Show" and its "Shock Theater" package of 52 horror movies. Scott hosted the program in regular rotation with his three colleagues through John Zacherle's arrival on 22 September 1958. He was also the on-camera host for "Family Film Festival".



FREDERICK FOY

Fred Foy was born on 27 March 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He was an actor, known for The Generation Gap (1968), The $10,000 Pyramid (1973) and David Frost Presents the Guinness Book of World Records (1975). He was married to Frances Bingham. He died on 22 December 2010 in Woburn, Massachusetts, USA.



JOEL CRAGER

Joel Crager was born on 8 June 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was an actor, known for That's Life (1968), The Patty Duke Show (1963) and New Art of the American West (1979). He died on 28 July 2010 in Fort Lee, New Jersey, USA.



ERNIE ANDERSON

Ernie Anderson was born Ernest Earle Anderson on 12 November 1923 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He began working in radio at Burlington, Vermont's WSKI-AM in 1946. He met Tim Conway at WHK-AM in Cleveland and began writing with him. They were hired by Cleveland's WJW-TV in 1961 where they created "Ernie's Place", a daytime show of movies and comedy sketches. He created the beatnik character Ghoulardi for himself, wearing a lab coat, fright wig, fake goatee beard and mustache and became popular introducing WJW-TV's Friday night horror movie show "Shock Theater" (1963). Rose Marie, best known as Sally Rogers on The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961), recommended him to Steve Allen who recruited him for his own show.

Ernie had many run-ins with his management in Cleveland and moved to California full time in 1966. He appeared in two episodes of Conway's television series Rango (1967) and then formed a comedy act with his old friend. He was hired as "the voice of ABC" in the late 1970s where he continued to work well into the 1980s. He also did the voiceover for the previews of current episodes during the first three seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). Ernie Anderson died at age 73 of cancer in Los Angeles, California on 6 bFebruary 1997.
