Mystery Playhouse was an Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) horror program broadcast overseas for soldiers during and after World War II, running from around 1943 until about 1947. Peter Lorre provided tongue in cheek introductions to popular rebroadcasts of shows like "The Whistler", "Inner Sanctum Mysteries" and others. The regular series themes and introductions were edited out. The series features good stories. Later, other hosts introduced the series, including Jeffery Bonds. In 1947, Lorre would be the narrator and star in "Mystery in the Air", with Harry Morgan as the announcer. In 1953, Lorre would play the host for "Nightmare".
