BORIS KARLOFF



"Thriller" was a hosted triller/horror anthology television series with Boris Karloff as host, screening on NBC. Thriller, at first, told stories of crime and mystery, but later morphed into a series of gothic horror tales. Many of the screenplays were based on works by authors such as Cornell Woolrich, Robert Bloch, and Charlotte Armstrong.


The series had two seasons. Season 1 ran from 13 September 1960 until 13 June 1961 with 37 episodes being screened. Besides hosting the season, Karloff appeared in episode 10 "The Prediction", on 22 November 1960.


Season 2 ran from 18 September 1961 until 30 April 1962 with 30 episodes being screened,
with Karloff appearing in the episodes: "The Premature Burial", "The Last of the Sommervilles", "Dialogues With Death", and "The Incredible Doctor Markesan".

He was a thriller of a host. Tonight I present Boris Karloff, host of Thriller, an anthology series that ran for 2 seasons on NBC from 1960 to 1962 consisting of a total of 67 episodes.

In addition to hosting the program, Karloff also acted in 5 episodes of the show. The show featured a virtual who's who of top talent of the day including Bruce Dern, William Shatner, Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Montgomery, Tom Poston, Leslie Nielsen, and horror legend John Carradine. The show offered macabre horror and suspense thrillers penned by writers such as Robert Bloch, Robert E. Howard, and Richard Matheson. The show has captured a huge fan base over the decades and still remains popular. In his 1981 non-fiction Danse Macabre, Stephen King called Thriller "the best horror series ever put on TV".


Boris Karloff was born William Henry Pratt on 23 November 1887 and died on 2 February 1969. He was an established actor, starring in many movies, television shows, radio and records. He his best remembered by horror fans as "Frankenstein's Monster", "The Mummy" and "Fu Manchu".


The last role for Karloff was in the 1971 sicence fiction / horror movie "The Incredible Invasion", playing the part of Professor John Mayer.
